Getting chased by the Rockport police is half the fun of NFS Most Wanted, but getting busted sure isn't. Here are the best ways to lose the cops, with the spots and tricks players have been using for years.

Get away, then stay hidden

Losing the cops happens in two steps. First get far enough away that they lose sight of you, then stay hidden until the cooldown runs out. If they spot you again, the chase is back on.

Smash a pursuit breaker

Pursuit breakers are things you can wreck to take out the cops behind you, like knocking down a gas station. They show up on your minimap during a chase. Hit one when the cops are right on your tail, otherwise they just drive around it.

Use the Rosewood highway loop

One of the best escape routes in the game. The loop has a pursuit breaker at the gas station and another at the stadium, and each one has a hiding spot right next to it, so you can break the chase and hide in one go.

Hide in the best spots

Hiding spots are the blue circles on your minimap, and they make your cooldown fill up faster. Some favorites:

  • The bus station south of the Rosewood police station. Smash in, drive up the ramps and stay out of sight.
  • The golf course, which is also a great place to turn around, as long as you stay off the sand.
  • Back alleys and exit ramps, where you can just sit still out of sight.

Blast through roadblocks

Never turn around. Go around the roadblock on the grass, or aim for the back of a police car and break through. Speedbreaker makes your car heavier, so it's great for ramming through.

Dodge the spike strips

Spike strips start showing up at heat level 4. Stay on the freeway, where you can see them coming, and keep out of tunnels when your heat is high.

Shake the helicopter

At high heat a helicopter follows you, and you can't escape while it can see you. Get under a bridge or into a hiding spot and wait it out.

Lower your heat

After you escape, your car keeps its heat. Change its paint, body kit or rims and the heat goes down, so a quick visit to the shop makes the next chase a lot easier.

More tricks

  • Keep your chases short. The longer you stay, the more backup the cops call in.
  • Pick a heavy or all-wheel-drive car. It grips better and plows through roadblocks.
